Verbal language, body language, tone, deliverance, opinions, ideas, these are ways that describe how powerful communicating with others mean. How many people have walked in and out of our lives and left an impression that we carry with us? I sat and thought of so many people who made me think, cry, wonder and even get angry.
I wanted to share with everyone that we all as students have come across in our journey towards our goal of continuing with our education. Recently in one of our courses we all came across a media segment required in our course, I chose Dr. Eugene Garcia . Why did I chose him? I never met him, never knew he truly existed until just recently. But, listening to him speak about his experiences and humble beginnings had me looking at myself .
I found this video of him speaking at a graduation and spoke just as he did in the media we all were required to view. I remember listening and just nodding to everything he said. Much of my educational success really didn't come from a book, school or my teachers. He reminded me that my teachers were my parents, my family the people in my neighborhood that all contributed in creating this person that I look at in the mirror everyday while I wash my face, brush my teeth and put on makeup. He communicated to me how my experiences helped in understanding and appreciating my academic education all the more. What is so interesting is that even though this form of communication was one sided his views, thoughts and opinions brought me back to my childhood. I found myself thinking, laughing and fighting off a tear or two. It was so interesting for me was how this person was able to bring out the drive inside of me and justified the importance of education, my roots and ME! I hope you enjoy this segment.
